On January 10th, 2001, the California State Board of Education adopted standards for Music, Dance, Theatre, and Visual Performing Arts.

1. Purpose To provide education in the arts and literacy enhancement programs for children ages K-12. CSOAF classes will complement and augment the California state curriculum standards and classroom learning objectives.
2. Objectives By the end of each 20-week series of classes, participants who attend at least 15 classes should achieve the following objectives.
• 95% of participants will demonstrate increased knowledge in music and theater arts topics covered.
• 80% of participants will demonstrate improved reading skills.
• 85% of participants will demonstrate an increase in their ability to function effectively as a team member with peers and adults.
• 95% of participants will demonstrate an increased knowledge of career opportunities in the arts and creative writing fields.
• 80% of participants will demonstrate an increased knowledge in cross cultural issues.
